Summer Reading!

Summer reading has come and gone and information about our oceans was afloat! We’re so glad that the kids had such a good time learning and crafting with us. We’re also so grateful for our wonderful volunteers that came every week to read to the kids and help them learn.

The first week, we learned all about ocean predators! Sharks and Orcas took a step into the spot light and the littles learned about Eugenie Clark, the oceans most fearless scientist that has dedicated her life to sharks. They got to see real shark fossils and then paint their very own shark tooth necklace!

Week two revolved around the ocean floor! The reefs and creatures that live on the ocean floor got to shine that week. They got to see all kinds of fossils, like urchins and squid, and the kids got to put together their very own ‘ocean jar’ with some beach sand and seashells!

Week three was a high seas adventure! The day started off with learning the story of ‘Pearl’, the little mermaid that got a BIG job. After learning about Blackbeard the pirate, the kids found a letter from ‘Morgana the mermaid’ to Blackbeard himself, and found his treasure map! So off they went, following in Blackbeard’s footsteps until they found where he had buried his treasure. Unfortunately, (or maybe fortunately) they just missed the fearsome pirate. But they were left some pirate gold, and a gift from Morgana. They got to open oysters and get their very own pearls!

Our last week the littles learned about recycling and why it’s important that we take care of our earth. A Huge thank you to Donna Maciel from Bates County Industries for coming to talk to the kids about how they can help, and explaining what they do to try to reduce the waste from our areas!

Just a final thank you to everyone that came to Summer Reading this year. I really hope you had fun, and I hope to see you all back next summer as well! Today the littles learned about recycling and why its important that we take care of our earth. A Huge thank you to Donna Maciel from Bates County Industries for coming to talk to the kids about how they can help, and explaining what they do to try to reduce the waste from our areas! Also, thank you to the Moms, Dads, Grandparents, volunteers, littles, aunts, uncles, and everyone else for the card! It really made my day!
